Welcome to The Dionysus Theatre!
Our goal is to bring live, professional theatre of the highest quality to Livingston County and the surrounding communities and to keep you coming back for more! We will be producing six top notch productions per season including musicals and plays from comedies to dramas. Not only will we be staging some of your favorite classic productions, we'll also be bringing you the newest Broadway hits and award winners.
I had a teacher in New York who said "if you don't leave offended, you haven't seen good theatre". We don't know if we would go that far, but we do think that good theatre should make you laugh, or maybe bring you to tears, and possibly make you re-examine the way you feel about certain subjects, and that's what we aim to do.
But, why "Dionysus"? The name Dionysus comes from the Greek god of the same name. Dionysus was considered the god of many things, including theatre. A patron of the theatre, Greek myths say that when Dionysus went abroad he was accompanied by Muses who, with their songs and dancing, delighted the heart of the god. Dionysus was honored with a festival called the City Dionysia in which tribes competed with each other in performances, and the best show would have the honor of winning the contest.
We will be kicking off Brighton's Dionysus Theatre with a two show pre-season including one musical and one play beginning in the spring of 2012. Show information is coming soon, so be sure to check back often!
